Desert Fox -- June 1999

Chestnut gelding, 16.2 hh born 2/11/90

(Distelfink-Paratata xx [Aureatte II xx // Rapier II xx]).

"Foxi" is a full brother to our DISTANCE, who was successfully produced as the young eventer of 1996 by Catriona McLeod and consequently has been sold to Australia, where his name was changed once more to GV BRAVEHEART.

At the World Equestrian Games in Rome, October 1998, he represented Australia at the 3 day event and was placed 8th overall with his new rider/owner Olivia Bunn.

Foxi was purchased in 2001 by the Olympic Medal Winner Greg Best who hoped to represent NZ on him in the next Olympics. However that was not to be, as DESERT FOX suffered severe injuries to his hind legs during transport to a show. A long lasting care resulted in a sad decision: Foxi was put down in 2003.

Here is a quote from Greg's Rider Profile, HoY 2001: "His recent acquisition Vollrath Desert Fox (by Distelfink) is a horse which he believes has huge potential and one which may one day enable him to fulfil his wish - only this time instead of wearing the stars and stripes on his jacket, he hopes it will be the Silver Fern."
